Sunflower
Sunflowers are one of the few crops we can direct seed into the garden beds rather than growing as transplants. They grow so quickly and aggressively that they outcompete the weeds! We just have to watch out for the family of crows that has learned how yummy the seeds are!
We harvest sunflowers from late May/ early June - October or First Frost.
The darker varieties like Chocolate and Plum we grow only for late August-October or First Frost.
We have learned that some varieties of sunflowers are dryable, you will have to experiment and let us know which ones!
Vase Life= 7-9 days
Gold and Traditional varieties are dryable.
