Tulip
This diverse crop is one we are striving to perfect every season. In 2024 we added a heated greenhouse specifically to force tulips into bloom in the winter and it worked! We were harvesting tulips by early to mid-January!
Tulips come in so many shapes and forms not just the standard single tulip. We purposefully grow all the fancy ones with delicate colors and unique forms like parrots, doubles, French, specialty colors, fringes, and even double fringes. We have fallen in love, we hope you will too!
PLEASE NOTE:
MINIS- are tulips that have shorter stem lengths. They are still fine for most centerpieces but shorter than our norm. STEM LENGTH 6-10". They will still continue to stretch in the vase 2-4 inches sometimes! Prices reflect that they are shorter. Great for low and lush centerpieces, bud vases, and nosegays!
These amazing flowers do require us to commit a substantial amount of money to force them into bloom mid-winter. Bulb Costs + Tariffs, Shipping, Labor, Potting Soil, Crates, Propane Heat, and a ton of babysitting are necessary. (one warmer winter day where they are not cooled properly can cause thousands of dollars in lost tulips that just never develop flowers, ask us how we know?) Also, when it is a nice warmer winter day we have to harvest them 2-3 times a day! We just want everyone to understand what it takes and why the price has to be reflective of all of this.
We deliver our tulips 10 stems to a bunch and with the bulb attached. We spray off the bottoms then place them in a bucket with a little water in the bottom. This way they can feed off of their bulb. If you want to hold your tulips longer in a cooler leave the bulb attached. Simply cut off the bulb when you are ready to use them.
These beauties continue to grow in stem length once cut as well as flowers growing and sometimes color shifting! Tulip Magic! For instance Copper Image starts out more orangey salmon then opens and fades to a warm peachy copper! Charming Lady starts out creamy blush pale yellow then gets more yellow as it ages!
Did you know that the very first stock market was for tulips? And guess what!? It crashed!
